Charlene Doherty

Co-Owner

Charlene comes from a family of small business owners and currently runs the Doherty’s small manufacturing business. “The inspiration for starting Brewery Extrava comes from our collective experiences. Memories of traveling to great places, meeting amazing people, and the simple enjoyment of relaxing while enjoying well made local beer. We hope our customers create great memories and shared experiences while enjoying our beer.“ BE Honest. BE Kind. BE Grateful.

Joe Doherty

Manager / Co-Owner

Joe’s first experience with world beer styles came through his homebrewing hobby and his first sips of craft beer produced in Portland, ME (Geary’s, Casco Bay Brewing, Gritty’s). Later in life his business travels allowed him to experience the various cultures and beer styles of Europe. Upon deciding to step away from a Corporate career he turned his energy to founding Brewery Extrava to share world class, locally made versions of Belgian and other world beers styles with craft beer enthusiasts in the Portland area. BE Thankful. BE True. BE Yourself.

Michael LaCharite

Brewmaster / Co-Owner

A fourth generation home brewer, Michael has a long history in the Maine brewery scene having started his first brewery in 1994 and has created iconic brands such as Katahdin Red, Stowaway IPA and Holy Candy. Having traveled to Belgium where he learned from a number of Belgian brewers, Michael is using those experiences to create traditional and innovative Belgian and other world style inspired ales. BE Happy. BE Brewed. BE Great

Ryan Fitch

Assistant Brewer/Cellarperson

Ryan has been part of the Maine beer industry for 15 years and has a passion for all things craft beer. A self professed “hockey nut” and goalie since the age of 10, he still plays on a regular basis. Ryan is a die hard Bruins fan who loves the movie Waterworld and can’t stand the site or smell of seafood. He is an all around fun and lovable guy who is always smiling, laughing, cranking tunes in the brewery. BE Humble. BE Nice. BE Passionate.

Christian Cilley

Tasting Room Ambassador

Christian has enjoyed being a part of the Maine beer scene for the past few years, and is excited to pour some tasty Belgian-style beers at Brewery Extrava! Come on in and talk to him about pop punk, mountains, guitars, movies, and animals. These are a few of his favorite things! Yes, his interests are all that vague. Also, challenge him to cornhole – he’s trying to be the very best (like no one ever was). BE Easy. BE Breezy. BE Beautiful.

Shelby Cogan

Tasting Room Ambassador

I’m new to the beer industry, but am eager and excited to learn from and be a part of such a passionate team. You may also recognize me from our neighbor, Portland Power Yoga, where I work behind the front desk and am a developing Yoga instructor. This upcoming Fall I will be attending University of Southern Maine to pursue my Masters in Social Work. BE Friendly. BE Candid. BE Bold.
